Many candidates on the ballot this fall are people you’ve come to know. They have served you well in the offices they hold, and therefore are running unopposed. They are:

New Faces
MATT LARK FOR STATE REP
Matt, a teacher for 20 years, believes we need better representation for the middle-class in the state legislature. He will work to bring back local government funds to our communities, protect against attacks on unions and labor rights, attract businesses and industry to the 57th District and retain jobs. Matt believes public servants need to work together to find common ground. Specifically Matt:
- Has a family history of union activism, was former steel worker while working his way through college
- Worked vigorously on Issue 2, to keep the anti-labor Senate Bill 5 from becoming law
- Serves for past 5 years as President of the Norwalk Teachers' Association, engaging the members in community service
- Is married to Jennifer, and father of 3 children
TOM DUNLAP FOR COUNTY COMMISSIONER
Tom believes in "Leadership with a Vision." Tom believes Huron County is not well-served by the current commissioners' practice of "management by crisis." He believes if you see a problem, step up to try to fix it. You can't sit back and expect anyone else to do it for you. Tom enjoys public service and people in general. Specifically Tom:
- Has served the public since 1974 in Law Enforcement/Criminal Justice.
- Has served as the Huron County Sheriff from 1984 to 1989
- Has taught Criminal Justice at EHOVE Career Center for the past 20 years
- Has worked in the construction trades on a part-time basis for many years
- Has been married for 38 years to Jackie, with a daughter, son-in-law and 3 grandchildren
SHARON WARD FOR COUNTY COMMISSIONER
Sharon has a solid background in financial management and lots of practical life experience working well with people of all backgrounds. She believes County Commissioners should do more long- and short-term planning, make researched decisions and work together. Sharon’s strong background includes:
- Worked as a registered nurse, with a diploma in nursing from Samaritan Hospital, and a Bachelor's degree in Integrated Life Science from Walsh University
- Has a Security, Life & Health Insurance license, and works with husband at Glenn Ward Financial Services
- Was instrumental in starting Crisis Intervention Training for law officers
- Is married to Glenn, with a large blended family of 3 sons, 1 daughter and spouses, 22 grandchildren and soon to be 5 great- grandchildren
CHRIS RAFTERY FOR COUNTY RECORDER
Chris has experience and knows the Recorder’s Office objectives, guided by the Ohio Revised Code. Chris believes the office must be efficient and provide services in a timely, courteous, and helpful manner. Her first priority would be an improvement in the efficiency of information gathering such as indexing, scanning and retrieval. Specifically Chris:
- Currently is a member of Village Of Monroeville Council, sitting on Finance, Service & Utilities, Employee Relations committees and as Chair of the Planning Commission
- Served 4 1⁄2 years as Deputy Recorder in the Huron County Recorder's Office
- Has 18 years in banking as a mortgage and commercial lender and branch manager
- Attended Heidelberg College with a major in business administration and is a graduate of the Harry Blythe School of Banking
- Is married to Mike, with two children, their spouses and 4 grandchildren.

- Joyce is a small business owner with a record of job creation in Ohio. She will make job creation her #1 priority while protecting workers’ rights and standing up for middle-class Ohio values.
